Kirwan: Ninkovich honorable mention for NFL OLBs →
So Jerod Mayo is number two for ILBs on the list, and was called a young Ray Lewis by Pat Kirwan. This is of course awesome and exciting but I’m pumped to see Ninkopoop on there even if it is just honorable mention. Every other OLB on the list (top 10 and 5 honorable mentions) were either a high round draft pick, a high priced free agent, or both.
But not Ninkovich, he was a free agent the...

Patriots’ offensive third downs vs. Jets (2nd Half...
As we saw in our first half edition, the Jets dialed back their usual pressure on third downs and had success, especially in the second quarter, by flooding the short zones with defenders. Not once in the first half did they rush more than 4 on third down, which is a severe departure for a team that blitzed on 80% of third downs in the regular season.
Let’s see if they would continue with...

Patriots' offensive third downs vs. Jets (1st Half...
Last week we took a look at the Patriots defense on third downs in the playoffs versus the Jets. Today we take a look at the offensive third downs.
The Pats were 5/14 on 3rd down (35%) which shows how well the Jets defense played. The range of third down percentages run from 30% (excellent) to 50% (craptastic). If you’re holding opponents to 30% on 3rd down you have a dominant defense and...

Frenz: Should Pats Pursue Jason Taylor? →
Like most Pats fans out there I’m kind of over the Jason Taylor of it all. Anyone who has played for both the Dolphins and Jets is basically devoid of any Pats potential I ever saw in him. And ultimately you’re really only delaying the inevitable with Taylor. Sure, he might bring a good veteran presence to the defense, something I think they definitely need, but is he going to be an...

Boston Herald: Tracking the Patriots offseasons →
Wow, this is an epic list of a good number of Patriots and what they’ve been up to this lockout offseason. I know I’m biased but when you really think about what kind of team is going to be successful this season (whether training camp starts on time, or the talks fall apart and we miss a few games) are teams that have their coaches, players and systems in place (Pats), don’t...

Reiss: Fletcher putting in the work →
Great stuff here from Dane Fletcher. Sounds like he’s really dedicated himself this off-season and I’m excited to see what strides he can take. A realistic ceiling for Fletch in my mind is him challenging Guyton as the top coverage linebacker who occasionally blitzes. I’m not so sure he’s ever going to be a three down outside linebacker but he should be able to contribute...
