Week 9 – Indianapolis Colts 18-15 New England Patriots. Anthony Gonzalez two touchdowns.
If Gonzalez returns to the form of 2007 and 2008, when he was a tough-to-defend slot receiver with the Colts, the benefits will be solid for the Patriots. If Gonzalez resembles more of the player who had trouble staying on the field in each of the last three seasons and had limited production, there is little lost because this figures to be a minimum-salary type of contract. In that sense, this reminds me of the Jabar Gaffney signing from 2006. When the Patriots signed Gaffney that year, during the season, the move was an afterthought. But soon enough, Gaffney became a key cog of the receiving corps, earning a contract extension. Maybe the same happens with Gonzalez. Maybe it doesn’t. But I can envision why the Patriots see value in taking a chance with the 2007 first-round draft choice (32nd overall).

“If you think about the concept of zone coverage, you were going to make the quarterback throw to a hole and have somebody go physically hit the receiver, and at that point, you hear the term ‘alligator arms,’ ’’ Snead said. “Well, that’s now out because of safety concerns. “These quarterbacks are so good now, the timing, they can throw to spots because every zone defense has a route that can beat it, and the great quarterbacks know it post-snap, and they throw to spots and the receiver gets there. “I think you’re going to see over the next 2-5 years the evolution of maybe new coverage schemes based on that.’’

Brandon Lloyd ‘Spectacular’ Highlights (by Boysouth15)
Alright, I’m in. Let’s lock this thing up.
A league source Friday night said that the 30-year-old Lloyd and the Patriots were “close’’ to coming to a contract agreement. Once it’s finalized, the team could potentially have the outside-the-numbers receiving threat it has been lacking since Randy Moss was traded a quarter of the way into the 2010 season.

Great news out of Foxboro this morning with every Patriot in attendance of the teams practice today, which was held in full pads. This includes Logan Mankins, who missed last week with a knee injury (reported MCL sprain) and Sebastian Vollmer who’s been held to just 6 games this season after battling back and ankle […]
