Many would argue safety is New England’s biggest need, and it’s certainly a valid debate. However, the reason I put cornerback over safety is because corner is more valuable in today’s NFL. In my opinion, cornerback is the second-hardest position to play behind quarterback. You take the corner over the elite safety every time. But there’s no avoiding New England’s need at safety. Patrick Chung is a good, young player who needs someone next to him to take the pressure off on the back end. This is a great year for safeties in free agency. Therefore, New England could have this need filled before the draft.

I would argue Safety is our biggest need.

File this one under “Things everyone totally saw coming”. Get him down to around the vet minimum (I bet he’d take it) and let him compete in camp and show if he’s picked anything up. They’re not going to get anything for him via trade, and it’s not like they have a ton of great depth at WR. As long as his salary is manageable I don’t see a downside for at least keeping him around until camp. If he still isn’t getting it you can easily cut him.

I don’t mean to scare Dolphins, Jets and Bills fans, but the word on the street is that if San Diego doesn’t get WR Vincent Jackson locked up he’s likely headed to a certain New England team. That’s right….nail biting time.

It has long been reported that Vincent Jackson is the number one wide receiver on the Patriots internal wish list, so everytime these rumors pop up I’m not so fast to dismiss them. Not sure how the economics of it would work, especially with Welker to sign, but it’s something to keep an eye on.
Maybe I can find articles linking the Pats to every single major free agent out there in the next two weeks. Nothing scares opposing teams more than rumors the Pats are looking to make a big splash.
