TCU Daily Skiff: Malcolm Williams’ unlikely journey
I thought the selection of Matthew Slater a few years back was a little outside the box, but picking Malcolm Williams takes the cake. At least Slater came from an NFL lineage and was at a Pac-10 school. I wonder if there a single other NFL team out there that even had him on their radar. Will be interesting to see how he does in training camp. Whenever that is…
We’re excited to officially announce that we’ll be joined by Mike Reiss this Sunday on the podcast. As anyone who ever reads this blog knows, I’m a big, big fan so I’m excited to finally get to talk to the overlord of Patriots blogger-dom.
Interesting nugget from Ian Rapoport regarding Ryan Mallett and the similarities in terminology between Arkansas and the Patriots:
Did you know that the Patriots and Arkansas call their plays exactly the same way?
“Oh, it’ll be similar,” Petrino told me in his office. “It’ll even be plays that will be called the same, where he’ll step in and it’ll be exactly the same.”
How exactly?
“Simply because I grew up in Jacksonville with Tom Coughlin,” Petrino said, “which ties back to (Bill) Parcells. Like, I heard (Tom) Brady call the play on TV the other day: 136 Dual Y Choice. That’s the exact same way we would call that play. So, there’s certain things that are going to be real easy carryover. Because of the system we use, and it’s kinda been that line with Coach Coughlin. He had responsibilities in protections, which obviously in the NFL, you have to do,” Petrino continued. “We did it very similar to the way he’ll do it there.“
Kinda feels like offseason Benjarvus Green-Ellis day doesn’t it? With his appearance on ESPN First Take and recently activated twitter account The Law Firm is all the rage today, so let’s throw him a little video love…

The (2nd) Greatest Kick in NFL History…
And it just popped up in beautiful quality on Youtube.
Mike D. note: good point by readers, this is probably the second greatest kick compared to the one that forced OT. I got a little carried away by the quality of the video.

Ian Logue/PatsFans: Patriots Mankins Hurt Players Stance With Holdout
Interesting stuff here from Ian. Something tells me Mankins doesn’t really understand all this legal back and forth, but I’m sure being used as a pawn will just piss him off even more and make him a better guard for the Pats whenever the season starts.
This might be an obscure reference but it reminds me of how in One Crazy Summer the guys get Bobcat Goldthwait all fired up to row faster and faster by making up things their enemies said about his favorite wrestler Mr. Congeniality.
Go to :58 below to see what I’m talking about. And by the way this part of the movie was shot at Sesuit Harbor in East Dennis on Cape Cod, the harbor I spent summers in as a kid. The boat they’re driving sat dying in the harbor junk yard for about five years after this was shot.
Anyway, the Patriots should continue similar tactics with Mankins.
