Barnwell: Darius Butler 5th Least Valuable
Here’s what Barnwell had to say about DBut..
Butler began the season as a starter by allowing teams to go 26-of-35 for 253 yards in two games against him (plus two pass interference calls). He got benched and came in for three plays the following game, allowing a completion and missing a tackle before disappearing again. It took him six weeks to get any playing time after that.
Butler started getting some time in slot as the season wore on and Jonathan Wilhite was lost to injury. Patchung wasn’t at his best when playing a pure slot role, so Butler was eased back in. You’d hope that he’d show signs of improvement but in the season finale against the Phins, and the playoff game vs. the Jets he was dreadful. He might still be having nightmares about Braylon Edwards dougy-ing on him.
