Deflategate Shifts From Footballs to Fairness
New one up on Athlon, taking aim at the NFL’s process and systematic lying.
There’s no question this has gotten so far beyond the scope than anyone ever imagined, even when the original Wells Report came out. But what is clear is the current NFL administration is what is bad for the NFL.
We were told that this was all about Tom Brady not being truthful when the punishment was handed down. But I’m still waiting for one piece of hard proof that Brady lied at all.
The NFL on the other hand has now been caught in a web of lies and it’s supposed to be their job to maintain the integrity of the league, not take a sledge hammer to it.
Forget it was our team and quarterback that this happened to. In what universe is it okay for the NFL to ignore facts, to let one of their clubs be unnecessarily destroyed in the media and the lie and cover up the truth just to maintain their original premise that the Patriots cheated.
Should we really be surprised after what we’ve seen from Roger Goodell and his cronies who seem far more invested in themselves than the integrity of the game.
Here’s the thing – Goodell and his team of lawyers and other monkeys are completely replaceable. The NFL and their fans don’t need them, and as they get caught in each new lie it only reinforces that they need to go.
You never thought a situation could be handled worse than the recent controversies they’ve had – Bountygate, Ray Rice, Adrian Peterson – but somehow they’ve managed to blow all those out of the water with this one.
The sooner they’re gone, the sooner the NFL can start re-establishing trust with their owners, players and fans. But there’s no going back now.

In other words – deep breath here – Goodell deliberately mischaracterized conversations held behind closed doors to uphold his own over-the-top suspension based on a vague conclusion drawn by a league-compensated and hardly independent investigator that “it was more probable than not” that Brady was “generally aware” that a fineable misdemeanor that had no impact on anything might have occurred.
Or maybe it was just science. Damned if we know. Four games, son. Didn’t want to do it. Felt I owed it to you.
Great read from Chad Finn.

The Pats were back at it on Thursday and the injuries are starting to pile up a bit, especially at the receiver position where Josh Boyce is now the top X receiver with LaFell and Dobson (minor hamstring) sitting out. As long as they’re not major, which even Tyms’ shoulder injury isn’t (per Jeff Howe), injuries can be a blessing because it forces other guys down the depth chart to get quality reps.
Here are the tweets of note from today’s practice…

Amendola made a great catch on a great Brady pass during 7s. He was covered by Roberts, Wilson & Richards and still came down with the ball

Dominique Easley flew through the line to make a play in 11-on-11s.

Heavy focus on situations, including rushing FG team on field. Tavon Wilson INT of Garoppolo a highlight for D; Gronkowski from Brady for O.

Solid reps today for rookies Trey Flowers, Malcom Brown and Jordan Richards.

I had Josh Boyce down for seven catches in team drills today. He also went 3/3 during 1-on-1 &2-on-2 drills, beating Butler, Jean & Roberts

Another instance of the NFL blatantly lying to make Brady look shady…

Two young pass catchers that continue to stand out are tight end Zach Sudfeld and wide receiver KenBrell Thompkins. Both had plenty of positive moments throughout the session. Sudfeld made a few nice catches in traffic, while Thompkins had some impressive receptions of his own. (That didn’t mean either one of them had a perfect […]
