There’s obviously a long way to go (the real football starts when pads come on), but when I think of all the backups to Brady in recent memory, I’m not sure there’s one who has as much promise as Garoppolo at this point.

I needed that separation,” he said. “I needed to just go see. I have to say, I was somewhat of a spoiled brat. I hadn’t lost many games since I was in high school, college. Coming here, we saw the playoffs every year, and it just made me look at things totally different, being on the outside, watching those guys.

G Caylin Hauptmann – The 6-foot-3, 300-pound second-year player from Florida International spent last season on the practice squad and is getting a chance to impress with Dan Connolly unsigned and Ryan Wendell recovering from shoulder surgery. The Seahawks once saw enough in Hauptmann to put him on their 53-man roster.
One of the bigger surprises of yesterday was how Tre Jackson had been given Dan Connolly’s number 63. We just kind of assumed Connolly would be back but that’s a sign he might not be. That opens another starting spot at LG. Wendell wasn’t more than a center before last year and surprised everyone by playing well at RG, can we swing to LG now? Neither Tre Jackson nor Shaq Mason played LG in college. So now rumblings are Hauptmann is in the mix and could be a major part of the plans this year.
