Justin Francis continues to impress. He dusted Waldron with the push-pull-rip move. Francis, who has shown end/tackle versatility, is going to be hard to keep off the team if he stays healthy.

When the defense went against the offense running plays off scout cards the front four consisted of Ninkovich, Love, Wilfork and Jones. They were backed up by the SEC D of Mayo, Spikes and Hightower. The first guys off the sideline to sub in were Deaderick at defensive tackle, Cunningham at end and Tavon Wilson swapping in for Steve Gregory at free safety.

The team worked on a somewhat stouter version of the 4-3 front that saw Brandon Deaderick taking reps at the left defensive end spot that has primarily belonged to Rob Ninkovich to open the summer. The rest of the line consisted of Love, Wilfork and Chandler Jones. The front was working to the strength of the offense, so Jones and Deaderick actually saw reps at both end spots.

Star performer of the day. Rob Ninkovich/Brandon Bolden. Returning to full-team drills, Ninkovich showed nice explosion working off the edge – first beating right tackle Marcus Cannon in 1-on-1 rush drill, and later showing up in 11-on-11 work with a strong rush. Meanwhile, Bolden ran hard in close and also continues to show nice hands in the passing game (diving catch along the sideline).

We’re working on two-minute and you can’t afford mistakes. All 11 of us have to be on the same page. That’s why we do two-minute at the end of practice. You’re tired, you’re drenched in sweat, and that’s when your concentration needs to be at its best, because that’s when the game is on the line.
