Patriots Youngsters Give Up Spotlight During Transition Into Rookie Camp – New England Patriots – NESN.com
Several rookies, including linebacker Dont’a Hightower, noted this stretch has served as the start of their fulfilled dreams of reaching the NFL. It also means the afterglow of the draft has switched off, as the purpose of their process has officially begun. “I’d rather not have the spotlight on me,” Hightower said. “I’m glad that’s over. It’s fun and everything, but I’m ready to get down to business.”
Not only do we have a lot of people that have been successful and provided some results individually, but a lot of them have some real background and knowledge of our system too, which is a little bit of a unique situation,” McDaniels said. “I think that makes for great competition. I know every year, we talk about having great competition at every spot, and the receiver position is certainly going to be filled with that. We have a ton of guys here, working hard, and making sure they’re ready for OTAs [organized team activities] in the spring. We’re going to give them all an opportunity. I don’t think you want to assume too many things. Let them go back out there and demonstrate what they know, what they can do, what they can provide our team, and let the competition play out.

New England Patriots Draft Grade | Will Dont’a Hightower and Chandler Jones start Day One? (by ProFootballWeekly)
I love how everyone is backtracking on the Tavon Wilson pick now. Oh he was rising up draft boards even though none of the “pundits” even knew who he was.
I also think that the same people who are saying “Chandler Jones needs time but will be a great pick in the long term” are going to be calling him a bust if he doesn’t set the world on fire this year.

B/R Debate: Is Anything Less Than a Super Bowl Win a Failure for the Patriots? | Bleacher Report
Good stuff here from Frenz and Pallazolo, though I’d put 2006 up there in the disappointment department. Yes it was one of the less talented Patriots teams of the last decade, most on the offensive side, but if they could’ve just held on during the second half against the Colts in the AFCCG I don’t think there’s much question they probably would’ve beaten Rex Grossman in the Super Bowl.
“He can play over a tight end — he’s big and physical enough to do that, but he’s also athletic enough to drop into coverage. Jake is a big body that’s athletic,” Haynes said. “Whatever the Patriots want to do make him and mold him into, you can do those things with him. You can move him inside. You can move him outside. You can do whatever.”
“There are guys you like to coach, who give you reasons to keep showing up in the office, even when you do want to,” he added. “Jake is one of those guys. He will do what you tell him to do. You don’t have to worry about him when he leaves the facility. He’ll be a great player and a great teammate in New England.”
