Kicking off the new week with a reset of the depth chart. Still holes to fill but the 2014 Pats are coming into shape…
Revis to me, in spending time around him, has unique anticipation. Elite anticipation is probably the right way to use it. He has a way of feeling it, understanding routes, reading the hops of players, reading the eyes, [the] general feel and he’s exceptional with ball skills. He knows how to break on the ball, where to use his hands to avoid penalties, and he obviously has soft hands for interceptions. His ball awareness and ball skills, and then again anticipation, are what make him an elite corner.

Good stuff throughout this one, including some interesting commentary on Wilfork’s deal. I always thought Wilfork was needed and has proved his far more than just a run-stuffing nose tackle. But I also think that it’s unquestionable the Patriots over-relied on him from 2010-2012, especially be making him play extensively on passing downs. He has value in those situations, but I think the team and player would’ve been better served if they had had other players to rotate with Wilfork in the more traditional upfield defensive tackle mold.
[T}he Patriots do hold a fifth-year option on Solder, one that must be exercised prior to May 3 of this year. That option, which is for all first-round picks of the 2011 draft, would be equal to the average salaries of the third through the 25th highest paid players at the position — in this case, offensive line — at the end of the restricted free-agent signing period. There’s no word yet on whether or not the Patriots would be interested in picking up that option.
Heading out of town for a well-deserved vacation of rest and relaxation. If major Pats news breaks, we’ll talk about it tomorrow-ish. Until then it’s all massages and mai tais!
