Well those were smart contract clauses…
Patriots WR Danny Amendola, DT Tommy Kelly ruled out. Both will lose a $31,250 roster bonus. Aqib Talib is doubtful. Would lose $23,437.50

Brady has called his rookie receivers to do film work with him on Tuesdays, which is the players’ off day. Brady can’t compel the rookies to come in. They must do it on their own, and they have, which explains why Brady has spoken so highly of the effort Kenbrell Thompkins, Josh Boyce and Aaron Dobson have put forth. “He wants us to be great, and I’d thank him for pushing us this hard,” Dobson said. “It’s a challenge, but he’s doing it for us to be great, and I respect him for that. That’s what we have to do.” Dobson said the Tuesday film sessions focus on getting everyone to see what Brady does when he looks at an opposing defense, allowing the Patriots to better adjust on the fly. To accomplish that, Brady breaks out anything, from film of OTAs and/or minicamp to old tape of Welker and Deion Branch. “We don’t see the same thing that he sees through his eyes,” Thompkins said, “and to actually have him here and telling us what he wants, that helps us a lot. When you get adjusted to that pace and seeing exactly what he wants, and then you do it the way he wants, you’re, ‘OK, now I see what you’re seeing.’ ”
But at some point, the losses are going to add up. The biggest postseason games often come down to which team gets top performances from their elite players. The Patriots had been on the losing side of that equation for more than a few years. It looked like they had a chance at the right formula this season, if things went right on the injury front. They haven’t, and you can only beat so many teams without blue-chip players like Wilfork and Mayo. At some point they’re going to run into a team that just has better (healthy) players than they do.

Ah, the Wet Blanket of Reason returneth… Hard to disagree, we can only hope the Pats get the bounces in January. They used to beat teams that had “better (healthy) players” with superior team discipline and mistake-free football. No matter what they’ll go down swinging and that is all we can ask for.

Good read from Frenz. You just cant understate how Gronk is just what the Hoodie ordered for the offense to take another big step forward.
When you look at their schedule — and again, I think that the Jets are an absolute total wild card — but when you look at the Patriots’ schedule coming up, you certainly think that if you have to miss Talib, you’re probably missing him at the right time,” King said. “Because you figure that you can put some pressure on young quarterbacks like Geno Smith and like Ryan Tannehill next week, and quarterbacks that really have been inconsistent. … “And I guess when I look at the Patriots right now, especially on defense, I think what has really helped them tremendously is that they’re getting pressure up front. … I think they’re playing so well in getting pressure compared to maybe past years that I wouldn’t worry about it as much. I worry about it against [Ben] Roethlisberger, but I wouldn’t really worry about it in the next couple of weeks as much as I would worry about it against [Drew] Brees, Roethlisbeger and those guys.”
Personally I think it’s just been better coverage, especially the physicality at the line. The pressure has been inconsistent, and MMQB’s rankings have the Pats at 25th in the NFL. That just might be the best pass rush metric out there.
