They mustered a pedestrian 358 total yards against the Buccaneers, and through three games are only averaging 19.7 points per game, down from 34.8 last year. The Patriots managed only two touchdowns in five trips inside the red zone, and Brady’s longest completion of the day was just 20 yards. He’s had to dink and dunk all season with his top receiver threats taken away. Through three games, Brady is averaging just 5.5 yards per attempt — a full 2 yards below his career average of 7.5.

Most weeks, the Patriots will be in their nickel defense (five defensive backs) against the three-receiver package, which lightens the box against the run but adds help in the passing game. On Sunday, the Patriots switched things up by subbing out Gregory at safety for a third cornerback (Alfonzo Dennard), while keeping their front seven intact.

After struggling to get on the same page for the first two weeks, Brady and the rookies took a step in the right direction in Sunday’s 23-3 win. Dobson and Thompkins combined for 10 catches, 93 yards and two touchdowns on 17 targets. This after completing passes on 9 of 21 targets between the two in the first two games.

Edelman back at practice today, with a red cast on his left hand/wrist.
