The Patriots are finalizing a move to bring in TE Jordan Leggett and DT Darius Kiljoy to their active roster. Mike Reiss reported that they’d both been in for a visit last Friday, and now, pending successful testing and physicals, they look set to join the team.
This move adds depth for two positions of need as they head into competitive practice next week.
So who are the Patriots signing?
Jordan Leggett – TE
Picked by the Jets 150th overall in the 2017 draft, Leggett, a highly touted TE out of Clemson, had an injury-plagued time in New York before being waived in May 2019. He was later picked up by the Bucs and spent time on and off their practice squad before being waived in June this year.
Build at six-foot-five, 258 lbs, Leggett is a big unit and will provide healthy competition alongside the others in his positional group.
Leggett had some fun back in April when Gronkowski signed for Tampa Bay, now in a full circle switch, he’s looking to join the group that was once led by “big 87”.
Current TE’s – Devin Asiasi, Dalton Keene, Ryan Izzo, Jordan Leggett.
Darius Kilgo – DT
Originally picked by the Broncos in the sixth round of the 2015 draft. Kilgo played a minor role in the Super Bowl-winning Denver team that season, recording six tackles. After missing Super Bowl 50, Kilgo was waived in November 2016.
No stranger to Foxboro, Kilgo earned a Super Bowl 51 ring as a member of the Patriots practice squad in 2016. He was cut soon after and spent time with the Jags, Texans, Titans, and most recently, the Detroit Lions.
An extra camp body now in the mix to create competition, will have to impress if wants a chance to make the roster.
Current DT’s – Adam Butler, Beau Allen, Byron Cowart, Bill Murray, Darius Kilgo
