Patriots’ Tom Brady’s Window Closing, Time For Bill Belichick To Go Big In First Round « CBS Boston
Interesting case here made that the Pats should god for quality over quantity this year. The problem as I see it is that there isn’t a slam dunk player in the draft that will take this defense to the next level. In fact, I’d say you’re a lot more likely to take this defense to the next level by tapping multiple value targets in the second round.
Though cornerback isn’t a glaring need in my book I see a lot of quality corners who fit what the Pats would like to be able to do.
In a dream scenario it would be easy to say “let’s trade a couple picks, move up in the first round and nab the next Demarcus Ware”, but I don’t think the next Demarcus Ware is anywhere in this draft, especially not in the range that the Pats would be able to get to with their draft capital, 10th overall is probably the ceiling for what the two first rounders would get by the draft value chart.
It’s impossible to know how the draft will go, and which prospects could possibly fall into a range where the Patriots see value in the player for a trade up, but from what I see the real value in areas of need (DB, OLB, C/G) will be in the mid-rounds.
