For the first time since 2008, the Patriots won’t be enjoying postseason football. A defeat against Miami with a performance which pretty much summed up their season. Here are the ups and downs from Week 15.
Ups ⬆️
Jakobi Meyers
Looking past the fumble that he had during the game, Meyers put in a solid performance yesterday. He went 7/11 for 111 yards and is continuing to show production since earning a starting role midway through the season.
A bright spot in what seems to be a disappointing end to the 2020 season, Meyers is here to stay.
Sony Michel
With Damien Harris missing, Michel had an opportunity to stake a claim in the starting RB picture. Unfourtunatley, he was only given 10 carries in the game, but still managed to amass 74 yards on the ground.
My question like many is, why didn’t he get double the amount of carries? Welp, at least it’s a sign that one area of this team is solidified for next season, Pats have a great group of backs.
Nick Folk
Perfect again yesterday as Folk hit 4 straight field goals earning the only Patriots points last night. Continues to be solid for the Pats.
Adrian Phillips
Phillips was busy yesterday and made some good plays, even getting a sack on Tua. One of the better players this season on defense, he continues to be productive in his first year on the team.
J.C. Jackson
Got the pick off Tua in the redzone which for a short period, swung momentum. Jackson now has 8 picks on the year, and should expect to see himself named to his first Pro Bowl this evening.
Downs ⬇️
Run Defense
Given that Miami coming into this game were one of the worst rushing teams in the league, it’s inexcusable that the Patriots allowed them to pile 250 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.
A relativity unknown back for Miami, Salvon Ahmed ran for 120 yards and a touchdown. A theme for the Patriots this season has been the lack of run defense, and it looks to be something they’ll have to focus on for next season.
Cam Newton
Another lackluster performance by Cam, it feels like one step forward, two steps back with his season for the Pats. His fumble, although later reviewed and given back the New England, was another example of his poor ball security this season.
He managed to put together a better passing game, but wasn’t able to do anything in the redzone when it mattered most.
Dalton Keene
Was targeted on a couple of passes during the game, dropped one and fumbled the other. Not a good day for Keene, who, along with Asiasi, have had 0 production in their rookie season’s.
