We are just 10 days away from the start of training camp. This never gets old, especially when you’re coming off a sixth Super Bowl. I jumped in with a bunch of content last week about the things I’m most excited to look for when things get going.
The PUP list, left tackle, tight end and new receivers headline things.
If you have never had a chance to make it to a training camp practice I can’t recommend it enough. Entry is free, you’re up close to the players and surrounded by fellow crazed fans. There’s games, arts and crafts and some pockets of shade if you know where to find them.
And if you happen to be there on August 3rd for Tom Brady’s birthday there will be free cake.
Teeing everything else up in some Monday Posits!
— While Jerod Mayo did some play-calling in training camp I wonder if he will continue to do so in camp. Mayo’s influence on the defense is a welcome addition after Brian Flores jumped to Miami after just one season of clutch defensive mayhem. I’m a defense guy and I enjoyed the hell out of watching Flores’ aggressive style after years of playing the odds with Matty P. I hope it continues under this TBD defensive staff.
— The turnover on the coaching staff is a fascinating subplot in the Bill Belichick era. And again, as a defensive guy, I can’t wait to see a defensive with a little more BB in it. I am interested to see which coaches are working where. Also curious how the development of young defensive players might be affected.
— What else would you want to do in the deadest part of the offseason than spend time constructing an eternally-long Twitter thread trying to prove Tom Brady has just had 20 years of great defense and impossible luck? I’m too busy enjoying the summer to engage in that stuff but thanks to the brave Pats fans souls responding with Tom Brady’s Greatest Hits Threads which are putting me over the edge on season hype.
— Or then there’s more deliciousness like this:
— Anyway, at this point, I’m just savoring every last sip of the Tom Brady experience and social media hot takes can keep trying to prove it to themselves with all this time and effort. I am surprised that everyone just seems to silently agree now that Belichick is unassailable.
