Sorry for the delayed action around here the past few days. Not that there’s really been all that much to talk about, but I was back in Boston getting everything ready for the move-back in June. The great news is that it looks like I’ll be living right around the corner from Gillette Stadium and well, you get what that means. I am looking forward to being able to take the site to another level. We’ll see how that all plays out this summer.
Otherwise, while I was in Boston the Patriots news was dominated by the report that Adrian Peterson was visiting the Pats. That, of course, was going to set off plenty of talking points, and it was even worse than you might expect because there’s nothing else to talk about.
Peterson left without a deal and you get the sense there might not be one coming. With Peterson’s past it’s easy to see why many people don’t want him on the Patriots, especially given Robert Kraft’s comments last week about the team not being interested in those with domestic violence in their past.
But I think the thing everyone forgets is that visits can be for a number of things. Most of the draft prospects the Patriots visit with they don’t even draft. So just because someone visits you can’t jump to the conclusion the Patriots are definitely considering signing them. Maybe they were considering Peterson, but I also know that Belichick spends time at just about every college Pro Day he can get to because the guy just loves football and football players.
It’s easy to see Belichick wanting to get a full eval on Peterson, not just if he ends up going to a rival, but also because, on a strictly football level, he loves football players like Peterson who are uniquely talented and enjoys talking with them.
As always, whenever the Patriots do anything everyone scrambles to determine “WHAT DOES IT MEAN” even when it doesn’t really mean all that much.
Blount Decision Coming?
The day after Peterson leaves without a contract we got a LeGarrette Blount update from Ian Rapoport:
βThey are just not there yet as far as getting LeGarrette Blount back in the fold for the Patriots. Maybe [the Peterson visit] will move things along, or maybe he is able to get a visit somewhere that will let the Patriots know that he has other suitors. That should transpire this week.β
I’ve wanted to move on from Blount for a couple years now. He sure looked good in spurts last season, but I think we’ve seen his best football and his tendency to disappear in the biggest games is well-established. His Super Bowl performance also left a bad taste in a lot of people’s mouths.
He does have some value and I’m sure if the Pats could get him back on the cheap again they’d be open to him. But I still would prefer to turn the page and find a mid-round rookie who’s big and runs hard. Stepping into the Pats’ running back rotation isn’t a huge order, and with Rex Burkhead added into the mix, the need is not what is was pre-Blount the last two offseasons. We’ll see about Blount’s “other suitors…”
Just Missed TFB
Gronk is such a WWE villain. Just stole Brady’s jersey on Opening Day πππ

One big regret from the Boston trip came when I was walking around Fenway pregame. As I passed a side entrance I noticed the Patriots security guy who’s always on the field with BB after games pop out of the ballpark. I realized that the Patriots were probably going to be part of the ceremony at that point but by then I was already at the other end of the stadium.
Moments later on Twitter I saw Brady enter the same door I had just walked by. So yeah, I just missed him. And I had a Comeback Tee under my arm that I could’ve just thrown to him too… Sigh… Someday Tommy… Someday…
The pregame antics with Gronk and Brady were great and clearly, after Gronk’s WWE appearance as well, there’s little doubt the big man is going to be ready to go for 2017. Let’s hope we can keep him that way for an entire season.
Planning on getting the Top 50 Draft Board up this week as my scrambling to get the Boston move in order is coming to an end. Stay tuned for that by Friday.
