For years opposing offenses were able to circle the Patriots on their schedule and know that they could log big numbers against the secondary. That’s no longer true, and New England has Talib to thank for that. His standing as a shutdown cornerback is no longer up for debate. First he took down Tampa Bay’s Vincent Jackson, then Atlanta’s Julio Jones, and finally Cincinnati’s A.J. Green. All three were impressive feats, but the way he erased Jimmy Graham from Sunday’s 30-27 win may be his most impressive performance to date.
aqib talib
I was thinking the other day when I read that [Vince] Wilfork goes down. This is the first thought that comes into my mind. I said, If I’m a Patriots fan, I’m saying, ‘Oh, boy, at least it wasn’t Talib.’ … Look, Vince Wilfork one day will get discussed in the room about going to Canton, in my opinion. But right now, this team, the way football is played — 61-39 pass-run ratio in the NFL so far this year, or something like that, it’s very close — 61 percent passing, going against Matt Ryan, Roddy White, Julio Jones last week, [Peyton] Manning down the road. If you don’t have at least one good [cornerback] — to me, you know who he is right now? He’s Richard Sherman. He’s good, he’s physical and he knows it. And I want my cornerback to have those three traits. So, to me, that is a gigantic [factor]. You can’t let him go. But on the other hand, you also can’t guarantee him [$]30 million, and a year and a half down the road he does something stupid.

Next offseason will be interesting, as they always are. Right now I think the Franchise Tag is really perfect for Talib.

Analysis Notebook: Week 4 – Talib vs. Julio | ProFootballFocus.com
After a stellar first quarter to the season, we were left with no choice but to get a Talib shirt up at the The Prop Shop immediately. We’re offering a pre-sale as the shirts are printed, so order one now and you’ll get $3 off. We’ll get them shipped as soon as they’re minted, in about ten days.
Order now, I’m sure these are going to be gone faster than a wide receiver’s catch totals after being manned up by Aqib.

ReFo: Patriots @ Falcons, Week 4 | ProFootballFocus.com
This was a ridiculous week for CB performances, but you may not see a finer one than that from Aqib Talib in quite some time. Talib was given the task most of the time of shutting down Julio Jones but he also saw a fair bit of Roddy White, an easier call until White gets fully healthy. Regardless of who he was covering, Talib was in close attendance and making a nuisance of himself, forcing passes out, picking them off, or forcing drops with his close coverage. In total he was thrown at seven times, and though he had safety help on occasions he didn’t allow a single catch in those targets. As if that wasn’t enough he saved one of his biggest plays for the game’s most important. On fourth down in his own end zone he batted away a pass intended for Roddy White that would have won the game for the Falcons despite White having good leverage on the route.
