Havens/PatsFans.com: Catching up with Brooks Reed
Nice job by Derek Havens talking to one of the personal fave prospects. Unfortunately, given the success of Clay Matthews, a team will see the long hair and think Reed is a Clay clone and take him way too high. But if he drops to the mid-second round I’d love to see the Pats pounce.
NFP: Brooks Reed the next workout warrior?
Everyone knows I am a fan of Brooks Reed but never have I said he should be one of the Pats first round picks. I think the highest I would consider him would be in the early 40s, which is tough because the Pats don’t currently have a pick b/t 33 and 60. I think that will change.
But Reed embodies the question we’ve been asking for a few years now, is it time to take a pass rush specialist who may be limited in other areas. It will be interesting to see, but you can’t really argue with just continuing to add the best players available and raising the overall talent level on the defensive side of the ball.
“I have Brooks Reed of Arizona going in the late first,” Kiper said. “You would have thought second. But I’ll say late first.” Reed’s stock is soaring after an outstanding ten-yard split at the Combine. We’d guess he’ll go in the mid to late 20s on April 28, but it isn’t out of the question for New England to fall in love with the Clay Matthews clone and pick him 17th.“

After this video I’m going to have to stop liking Brooks Reed so much. Clearly with where things are headed I couldn’t quite handle it if he ended up on the Colts, Phins or Jets.

From Todd McShay:
“Arizona DE Brooks Reed looked explosive without losing body control when forced to change directions and he’s shown on film that he can drop into underneath coverage. His lower body flexibility when asked to bend around cones or bags was a notch below elite but still above-average. He could play end in a four-man front or move to outside linebacker in a 3-4 front.
