Current Patriots Depth Chart

A lot of movement over the past week, here’s what I have for the current depth chart for the Pats. One area of interest is at nickel corner, where it seems like the team has been auditioning Dennard, Harmon and, to some extent, Butler the last two games. 

My gut says that Arrington will be back and heavily involved vs. the Broncos this weekend. There is a chance that he’s a little dinged up or fallen down the depth chart due to bad practices, but I believe the coaching staff views the first two months of the season as a time to find out exactly what they have. They know what they have in Arrington and there’s nothing wrong with easing the workload on a player who always seems to rack up injuries.

Otherwise, I’ll be curious to see how Alan Branch is assimilated. Does he go inside with Wilfork? Or is he used at defensive end on early downs in regular (43 or 34). Not sure when we’ll see him, he was out of football for a couple months and will need to get back in shape.

Patriots Depth Chart

This is far from set even when the Pats do get to 53 guys. I’ll be updating it as the moves come in. 

1:30pm EST update: So far, surprised the Beauharnais and Worthy were cut, otherwise most were pretty expected. Linebacker and defensive end depth are pretty thin right now. More moves sure to come…

4:30pm EST update – Danny Aiken is the last cut and it looks like they’ll find a long snapper sometime in the next couple of days. Things remain fluid, but for now the Pats are down to 53 guys. Lean and mean.

Still need some clarity on where the LBs are playing as well as some of the DBs. But generally this how things are shaping up so far.

Patriots have three open roster spots now with the release of Jeremy Johnson and Reese Wiggins, along with yesterday’s retirement of Armond Armstead. Expect some additions before camp opens next week. Maybe a tight end?

Patriots Post-OTA Depth Chart Reset and 53-Man Projection

There is an open roster spot as of this posting, with some likely cuts coming in the next couple weeks it’s good to have the ability to add someone. I’d still love another tight end or defensive end.

I’ve shifted the starting three linebackers with Mayo in the middle, keeping Hightower and Collins on the outside. The more I think about it, the more this makes sense. It’s a better use of the personnel especially against the pass. We’ll see how it holds up against runs up the gut.

Lot of tough decisions to make right now on the 53-man roster, especially on the offensive line where I kept nine. Also not sure how the linebackers will play out, they need some core special teamers there. Running backs are an interesting spot too, I expect we’ll start talking about Stephen Houston more once the pads come on and less Roy Finch. Of course injuries will make things a little easier to project unfortunately.
