Debate: Where Do the Patriots Need to Add Depth in April’s Draft? :Derek’s Patriots Blog
Good discussion between Frenz and Derek Havens, two guys who know their Patriots stuff.
As far as the safety conversation goes I’d only add that there is just not a bonafide starter out there in Free Agency or the draft. The best they can hope to do is bring in the mid-level vets (Gregory, kicking the tires of guys like Yeremiah Bell, Laron Landry), and a rookie or two to compete. Hopefully from this group a viable partner for Patrick Chung (or even someone to push Chung) will emerge. But there’s no simple “bring this guy in and we’re set at safety” solution this year.
I’m excited to be here. It’s probably the best professional football environment there is, so I’m excited for the opportunity,“ Gonzalez said. "I love the East Coast, I love this part of the country, so I’m excited. I’m happy and just glad for the opportunity.”
During his own pre-free agency research, Gonzalez said he targeted the Patriots as a team he’d like to land with, citing the team culture, winning history and offense as reasons why.
“The success part, for sure. That speaks for itself,” he said. “Just being in the NFL and being on the other side of that (Pats-Colts) rivalry for a while, there’s not a hatred or anything. It’s more of a respect. As you learn more about the teams you’re playing, especially this one, you kind of get an appreciation for how they do things. Just the way the (organization is) run and that sort of thing, to me it’s the perfect fit in a lot of ways.”

New England has five picks in a 66-pick span in the first two days of the draft (27, 31, 48, 62, 93). How smart would they be to deal No. 31 to a live-for-today team in the top 12 of this draft (Buffalo?) for a first-rounder next year?

10 possible Pats: Michael Brockers – New England Patriots Blog – ESPN Boston
Brockers is my favorite defensive lineman but it would take a minor miracle for the Pats to get into position to nab him. If he lasts past 12 I’d be surprised.
Brockers has the raw talent at what I believe is the greatest position of need on the Patriots roster. Outside of Wilfork there’s not a dominating player along the defensive line, Brockers could develop into just that.
“There’s a great deal to like about Brockers’ scheme versatility. At 6-5 and 322 pounds, he’s big and strong enough to line up at defensive tackle in a four-man front or nose tackle in a base three-man front and he’s even agile enough to play defensive end in the 3-4. He has the long arms (35 inches), upper-body strength and instincts to excel in a two-gap scheme in addition to the quickness and active hands to shine in a one-gap scheme.

In this case, frankly, Wells failed to make a sufficiently compelling case in those 243 pages that the Patriots tampered with footballs on January 18, 2015 and that Tom Brady was at least generally aware (whatever that means) of the effort to do so. Most significantly, common sense suggests that the PSI readings generated by footballs […]
