I’ve had quite a strange journey on Ryan Kerrigan over the three plus months of draft prep. At first he was immediately a very interesting prospect but as I heard more and more it appeared that a lot of people thought he was better suited for a 4-3.
But then he had a combine where he looked better and more agile in space than people had thought, and now I’m reading things about how he doesn’t have the ability to anchor from a 4-3 defensive end position in the run game and is better suited for a 3-4.
Who knows what is true, this is all I can say. This guy has the size. He can get after the quarterback. He seems the most level headed of any of the OLB prospects I’ve heard talk. And lastly, and most importantly, he wears a headband like Tom Brady does.
Consider me back on the Kerrigan bandwagon, I’d love to see him end up on the Pats. If he ends up being a bust it won’t be due to lack of effort.

New England Patriots celebrate the 1996 AFC Championship
Great new video popped up today on YouTube and in honor of Bill Parcells and Drew Bledsoe being nominated for the Pats Hall of Fame it’s pretty appropriate. Good stuff…

Some great nuggets in the transcription done by Greg Bedard of the Boston Globe, highly recommend you check it out. One highlight:
[T]hat’s just kind of the trend in college football these days. You don’t see a lot of true linebackers at the end of the line on their feet. Most of them play with their hand down and you have to make that decision with the Robert Quinns and the Justin Houstons of the world and all those guys…how well you think they can play on their feet or how much you want to play them down. We dealt with that last year when we drafted Jermaine Cunningham but when you look through the league just about everybody’s got those players and last year it was like Koa Misi down in Miami…you just have to project how well those guys are going to be able to play on their feet or how much you want to just leave them down and treat them pretty much as defensive ends even though you have a 3-4 base defense. Those are tough evaluations but they’re there every year.
