Tom Brady on 7/9… did someone get another trim? Looks like it’s short enough now to calm the masses….

“When I first walked up to him, I heard he was big, but he was like 6-2, maybe 200 , 205 pounds. He looks like a specimen,” McCourty answered. “I think when guys get drafted, everyone looks at their physical tools and what they might be able to do on the field right away, but just talking to him, I’m trying to explain the defense and as I’m saying a sentence, he’s just finishing it. It seems like he has a lot of football knowledge. I think that’s important when you come in to the New England defense; if you have some football knowledge that you can put together with what Coach Belichick teaches us, I think it can go a long way.”
“We have some receivers in our league now that are huge, just in our division last year, playing against Braylon Edwards and Brandon Marshall,” he said. “When you line up at the size he has, he can step up and go toe for toe with those guys physically, and he has good speed so he can run with them too.”

Congrats to Vrabel on a great career! He was a special player with the kind of attitude that could get under the skin of anyone, including his teammate Tedy Bruschi as Bru talked about in his book. But one of my favorite Vrabs stories was what he had to say to Philip Rivers during the 2006 AFCDG (yes, I was there). He pointed at Rivers and said “you’ll never be Drew Brees, you know it, (and then pointing to the fans) and they know it”.
Classic.
Despite the glowing comments from BB today…
“During his Patriots career, there was no player more respected for his football intellect and revered for his leadership by his teammates than Mike. "He was elected a team captain by his peers and is a player who I think everyone knew was destined to become a coach after his NFL playing career was over.
"Mike Vrabel is as well-suited for coaching as any player I have ever coached. He has a tremendous feel for people, players, coaches and what his team needs regardless of the situation. He is outstanding in his knowledge of the game, which contributed to his excellence as a player. I have no doubt Mike will develop tough, intelligent, fundamentally sound winners.”
I still think it is one of the great Patriots unknowns as to why Vrabel was traded to Kansas City basically as a throw in with Cassel. Did BB think he’d just lost his touch? He was just one season removed from a career high in sacks. Strange. Not sure what to make of it.

We’re easing our way back into things after a nice vacation on Martha’s Vineyard and we’re firing back up the manual posts with this incredibly well done Tom Brady video. I think I caught a whiff of football in the air today, anyone else?

This was the last time we’d ever see Bruschi on the field. I was at this game, wearing his jersey. And let’s just say I took a fair amount of shit from Seahawks fans for it. Until the guy next to me removed his jacket to reveal a Steelers jersey. After that it was like I was invisible.
