Tommy Kelly: Had a sack of Freeman in 11-on-11 work for a second consecutive day. The Patriots aren’t used to getting a consistent pass-rush from the defensive tackle spot, so Kelly’s emergence has been key. They are razor thin at defensive tackle right now, but with a healthy Kelly and Wilfork anchoring things in the middle, they’re in great shape.

Not a bad day for the defensive backs. After a down day, Aqib Talib bounced back and fared well against the Buccaneers receivers, and recorded an interception. Logan Ryan and Marquice Cole also had interceptions. Steve Gregory dropped an interception. Ryan could have added another interception in one-on-ones, but he never located the ball until it hit him in the chest.

New England Patriots: Five Players to Watch in Preseason Week 2 vs. Buccaneers – Yahoo! Sports
Five good rookies to watch from Oliver Thomas, the Pats will need regular season contributions from all of them.
I’ll piggyback off this and add five veterans later today…
Here’s a tweet recap of what happened today at practice. They’re being precautious, but it’s TFB so the general unease until he gets back onto the field is understandable for Patriots Nation. Fingers crossed it’s nothing serious…
Little bit of a scare here at Patrios practice as Tom Brady stayed down after incomplete pass in 11-on-11 drills. Was holding left knee …

Tom Brady walked off under his own power with a slight limp, missed one play, then returned to practice.

Brady keeps looking down at it. Doesn’t look comfortable. Now stretching it on the side
— Greg A. Bedard (@GregABedard) August 14, 2013
Brady leaves again and then back on the field for 11 on 11s. Not running with a limp, but still bears watching.

After consulting with Belichick, Brady just left practice with a trainer
— Ben Volin (@BenVolin) August 14, 2013
Don’t think Brady was hit. Looked like leg got caught up. He seemed to be holding left knee. Came back, completed a few passes, the left

For what it’s worth, Berj Najarian, Belichick’s right-hand man, doesn’t look concerned, hasn’t left field

Always enjoy the reports from practices against other teams…
Jamie Collins playing (sam) OLB in #Patriots 4-3 base with Spikes absent from today’s practice. Hightower moved inside to MLB.
— Derek Havens (@PatriotsHaven)
Amazing that after last year’s practices and game vs Patriots the Bucs still can’t get lined up in time
— Greg A. Bedard (@GregABedard)
Bucs CB Johnthan Banks is getting a real welcome to the NFL schooling today by Tom Brady. Brady hits Aaron Dobson again for a completion
— Roy Cummings (@RCummingsTBO)
No Brandon Spikes at practice
— Ben Volin (@BenVolin)
Vincent Jackson was torturing Patriots CBs a day. Arrington, Talib, Ryan.

Good film breakdown of some key plays from the Eagles game from Oliver Thomas at NEPatriotsDraft.com. I never get too excited or concerned after preseason games, but there are certainly plenty of things to work on and build on.
Belichick is building up the middle class of the team’s roster (players 20-40), which will create more depth and increase the level of competition. Part of this is tied to only three draft choices remaining on the roster from drafts in 2006, 2007 and 2008. It’s been an aggressive approach at the middle and low […]
