The week has flown by and Friday’s practice has now been and gone. A lighter session today in just shells and helmets, probably a good thing given how big the absent list has grown over the last few days.
Here’s today’s Tweets of Note.
Now, this wasn’t something I was expecting, Stidham looks to have avoided a serious leg injury following a visit to the hospital yesterday. He was at practice but only participated in a few drills with the majority of reps going to Cam Newton and Brian Hoyer.
In a video conference call earlier, OC Josh McDaniels said that Belichick had held Stidham out of fully participating, and that he should be “ready to roll” the next time they hit the practice field.
Credit to Stidham, reports are that he wanted to get straight back into practice, clearly emphasizing what the QB competition means to him, but this certainly doesn’t help his chances.
The first bit of news about any of the absentees is at least reassuring, the good news is that reigning DPOTY CB Stephon Gilmore isn’t injured. Wishing all the best for Stephon and hoping that he can get back on the field ASAP.
Attendance/Injury update:
New players absent: CB D’Angelo Ross
Again, WR N’Keal Harry, DE Derek Rivers, DL Beau Allen, CB Stephon Gilmore, OL Yodney Cajuste, CB Adrian Phillips, and DL Tashawn Bower were all missing.
Michel and Miller remain on the PUP/active list.
A little update from the WR group, second-year Gunner Olszewski continues to push for a roster spot, he’s been showing improvement catching the ball all week, and today, he’s been refining the craft which kept him around last season.
Jeff Thomas is also doing what he can to play catch up alongside fellow UDFA Will Hastings, but as Doug Kyed points out, it’ll take some serious work for them to make the roster.
The Jake Bailey Pro Bowl hype train is officially boarding! Some more good work from the second-year P who has been showing off his skills for the reporters in attendance this week.
Still not much word on K Justin Rohrwasser’s progress, apparently he’s been down on the lower field away from judging eyes, be interesting to see if the coaches decided to up the pressure next week as we get closer to the season.
