The Patriots were back in shells and shorts this morning, following two padded sessions to begin the week. I present today’s Tweets of Note, along with my thoughts.
This caught my eye, if you asked me who’d have topped total receptions through nine practices, I wouldn’t have said Gunner Olszewski. A really great camp for him so far, along with Bird, and Harry who’s come on well this week.
Olszewski also made an unbelievable “Odell Beckham-like” one-handed grab during the session today, certainly one way to gee up the offense and reporters.
Jakobi Meyers hasn’t been mentioned much, he was limited today and seems to be struggling to get the same involvement as he did last year.
Side note – Pats had four WR’s in for tryouts today, some potential roster movement could be on the way.
A big name back today was RB Sony Michel who’s attendance confirmed that he was activated from the PUP/active list. It’s great to have Sony back in an already stacked backfield, the interesting thing to watch for is the competition between him and Damien Harris for the leading role.
Dmac was also absent, indicating potential workload management, similar to Edelman who returned today. DT Beau Allen still missing without any reason for his absence.
RB Lamar Miller remains on the PUP/Active list.
A mixed day for Newton and fellow QB’s. Stidham by reports had increased reps and made some nice throws. Cam was a little off the mark alongside Hoyer, before he was picked off by S Terrence Brooks.
It’s really difficult to put an overall judgment on the position right now, the entire offense has been inferior to the defense so far in camp, similar to last year when we had Brady.
TE Devin Asiasi was in attendance after suffering a knock yesterday, he was however limited during practice. An upside is that fellow rookie Dalton Keene was able to take on some of the work along with Ryan Izzo who was involved today.
I’ll be keeping an eye on Asiasi, let’s hope a lighter session or two will be the needed remedy. So far I have the two rookies and Izzo making the team.
Hopefully, tomorrow will bring another padded session to continue the intensity we saw on Monday and Tuesday. It was just starting to shine a light on some exciting battles.
