Great to finally see some football today at a muggy second practice! As we try to get Patshow Season #2 going I’m going to try and use my video producer skills to bring some more video content. Let me know what you guys think!
A few other things I forgot to mention in the video:
— Marcus Cannon did leave practice early, walking off under his own power. LaAdrian Waddle slipped into his reps. Hopefully Cannon is back sooner than later, though his injury history is starting to add up.
— Stephon Gilmore had an AFC Championship-sealer-esque diving pass break up over Julian Edelman. Gilmore is on the left side this year and is the a clear-cut number one cornerback.
— As much as I wanted to notice him nothing about Sony Michel really stood out to me. Again, IT’S NO PADS, DAY TWO. All the backs had their share of work, including Burkhead, Gillislee and Hill, and I can’t say any of them really stood out, though Burkhead always looks shot out of a rocket.
— As I mention, Edelman looks like Edelman, and it’s such great news.
— On and by the way, Brady is still Brady. Yikes.

— So confusing having the rookies in 50’s numbers. Especially with the two rookie linebackers 53 and 54 behind the real 53 and 54.
— Dietrich Wise is the third defensive end right now, above Derek Rivers and Harvey Langi. I continue to wish to see Langi with the linebacker group, as usual safety Brandon King was for most of the day.
— Hightower has a knee brace but he looks in really good shape. Not sure what’s with the knee, I thought last year was torn pec and shoulder issues. Still, he moved well and is clearly the leader of the defensive front.
— Liberal rotations everywhere make it hard to get overly analytical about how competitions are stacking up, but notable guys with the starters included Isaiah Wynn, JC Jackson and I think I even caught rookie AJ Moore get some slot snaps.
— Patterson is going to be a WEAPON. He’s a threat to go deep or run an end-around on every play. He made a tough one-handed catch today, the best of practice. I’m starting to think he’ll be far more involved in the offense than I initially suspected.
— The punt returners are basically Edelman-Berrios-McCarron and that’s it. Chung and Hogan will take some free reps but those seem like only-in-emergency reps. So I think Berrios just might have a real shot at a roster spot. He seems compact and sudden. I like his frame to hold up inside too.
— Chris Hogan is just another one of those solid Patriot receivers. I continue to like him more than Phillip Dorsett who never really caught my eye today.
Not sure if I’ll make it to camp tomorrow but I’ll be there with media access on Sunday, which I’m looking forward to.
More to come…
